just practice

Dress - Rachel Roy
Tie - American Apparel

Husband (!) and me outside church after our wedding rehearsal. His wedding shoes were deemed "too fancy" for the rest of the outfit; thus, hiking boots.

03 May 2011

it's raining, it's pouring

aka: What I wore to my bridal shower. Notes to come later, because I left the dress at my mom's house. Also, I was just recovering from a 24-hour virus, and is it possible to lose a few pounds when you haven't eaten for 24 hours? Because the clothes felt a bit loosey-goosey on me.

back in style

Tights - HUE
Everything else - Land's End

Now that I have to be at work by 7:30, I don't have time for stuff like taking a picture of my outfit every day. But anyway, this week I fought off the urge to wear all my new Christmas-prezzie clothes at once, so today's outfit is made up of a pair of new tights (brown with cute dots) plus a few layers from one of my mom's pre-pre-holiday Land's End at Sears shopping sprees. Yeah, I'm turning 30 in six months and my mommy still dresses me.

This is what I wore to teach fourth graders the difference between dictionaries and encyclopedias.

dinner party

Dress - Nicole Miller
Necklace - Mom's vintage
Shoes - Crocs

This necklace is like an instant fancy-fier! The dress has a crazy criss-cross material thing going on. Fabric looks way better in person: red and white stripes with silver threads. Worn for a friend's bday party.

Dress - TJ Maxx
Sandals - TJ Maxx
Charm bracelet - Brighton

We went for a fun picnic in the park; nothing fancy. This is another outfit brought to you by Mom.

playing dress-up

My mom came to visit with a shopping bag full of clothes for me to try on. These two little dresses were rejected for being too small (left) and too big (right), but I ended up keeping a couple of really cute pieces that I plan on debuting soon. I think these were Guess (left) and BCBG (right). Ignore my wonky legs and check out the awesome necklace from Mom's jewelry box circa late '60s, early '70s. I'm totally stealing it.

fresh air

Dress - Land's End
Belt - Vintage
Leggings - American Apparel
Shoes - Keds

It's been hella hot outside lately but luckily I am "between jobs" at the moment, so I don't have to worry about looking too presentable in the humidity. Mostly I've just been wearing as little as possible. But the past couple of days have actually been nice. Sunny yet breathable. Today I even covered my legs! Notes on the outfit: Dress is actually supposed to be a beach cover-up. (It was sold as swimwear.) The belt came from my mom's closet, and the slip-on sneakers were designed by Philadelphia designer Eleanor Grosch. The pattern features tiny yellow giraffes.

easter

Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters
Dress - Unknown; bought by Mom
Leggings - American Apparel
Loafers - Lands' End

This playful little dress has pockets! That's what I'm hanging on to in the pic. Taken in front of one of the many colorful murals of my neighborhood, cause sometimes I do actually go outside!

an experiment

Dress - H&M
Shirt - Express
Boots - London Fog

I went through a phase of buying button-down shirts, because I thought they would make me feel more professional or older or something. Turns out they're not really "me" most of the time. But I still keep a few hanging in my wardrobe. Today I was looking for a colorful cardigan to wear over my sleeveless polka-dot dress, and decided to try this somewhat frilly blue shirt instead.

black and white plus tights

Dress - Dept store
Tights - Urban Outfitters
Shoes - Blink (via my favorite store in Seattle, Aprie)

My professor came to watch me teach today, so I wanted to look a little extra-dressy. What do you think? The right outfit for researching reptiles with first graders?

Side note: I bought these shoes for a job interview a few years ago. Didn't get that job, but still love the shoes!
